Our video team have done you a more condensed list of great RPGs you'll enjoy, in case you prefer a more audio-visual experience: We don't like to gatekeep what defines a genre too much RPGs can include chill farming games, slow story-telling reminiscent of visual novels (or actual novels), or the unique style and action of Japanese RPGs. Our main rule when putting together these lists is that a game should still be fun to play today, rather than just making a big impact when it came out. So we'll keep this list updated if any new games turn out to be really good - but rest assured that everything on here is playable right now, so there's no disappointment. The year of the RPG isn't up yet, as Starfield is just around the corner promising an entirely different kind of RPG experience, and even further of we can see big titles Dragon Age 4 in our future. But fear not if you're not into fantasy: we have plenty of other RPG antics to suit different tastes. Even as some companies put more stock in live services, Larian's stunner Baldur's Gate 3 is out now to prove that there is a hunger for big open-world RPGs where you spend 30 hours exploring a mushroomy cave and talking to pigs, in between bouts of killing goblins. Grimoire of the Tides: By the main entrance.Given that many of us play video games as a form of escapism, is it not arguable that the RPG is the truest form of video game? There's a reason that the genre where you get to literally pretend to be someone else is a popular one, and as such, we've curated a list of the best RPGs you can play on PC right now.Girdle of Mortal Protection: Crate to the west.Fragment of Abydon's Hammer: Inside the skull in the reliquary.Long Bosc: A dwarf standing by the entrance.Interacting with the shard in Abydon's throat allows you to pick up a fragment of his hammer for reforging at the White Forge in Durgan's Battery. The upper area can be accessed from within the abbey, and is where you confront High Abbot Kaoto at the end of The Rising Tide and then pass through the Veil of Tears - a magical barrier - using Ondra's Witness.Interact with it to swing across the icy chasm (assuming you have a Rope and Grappling Hook and at least Dexterity 18 on any party member). In the southeastern corner is a rocky outcropping, providing an alternate route into the abbey via the Halls of Silence. The locked chest nearby contains the Grimoire of the Tides. The central plateau contains the Crescentward, who will usher you inside. They are, in order: Anthu - The End, Saman - The Flood, Disaman - The Ebb, and Dianthu - The Beginning. To the northwest lie the outer battlements, with the passages of Ondra inscribed at the top (a clue for The Rising Tide). The lower level contains entrances to the Halls of Presence, while the upper level allows entrance into the Halls of Silence. The south-western half of the map is filled with winding routes and canyons, with the monastery opposite them. You can do so if you have Resolve 14, Perception 13, or Lore 6. Long Bosc stands nearby and can offer a few pointers on how to enter the Abbey as a spy. This is a large map that you enter from the southwest. The ritual of the Rising is performed by Tidebringers elected by the Ondrite conclave, which ritualistically floods the Halls of Silence, snuffing the Low Tide order out and allowing members of the High Tide to take their place in a cycle of forgetting and erasure. There are two orders of monks, the High and Low Tides, with the former composed of Giftbearers who joined the Abbey and tend to the Halls of Presence and other day-to-day activities, and the latter being those who reside in the Halls of Silence, surrendering their memories to their Goddess until nothing remains save a blank slate. The Abbey is a vital part of Ondra's worship, as it is here that the Giftbearers come to be laid to rest. His shattered skull contains a piece of Ionni Brathr, the lost third moon of Eora, whose tip protrudes through the ceiling in the Chamber of the Fallen Moon below. The Reliquary encompasses the uppermost battlements, and is the holiest of holies to the Ondrite cult, containing the remains of Ondra's beloved Abydon. The abbey consists of three floors: The Halls of Presence, which house the ritual, administrative, and representative chambers, The Halls of Silence, where the Giftbearers prepare for their final rest, and the Reliquary. The Abbey of the Fallen Moon is a large Ondrite cloister built in and around Abydon's ancient corpse, which landed here after he had sacrificed himself to save Eora's civilizations from a fragment of the moon, which Ondra had pulled from the sky.
